Not all high school students and college students have dreams in becoming a doctor. Not everyone wants to wear a white lab coat and deal with germs every day. Some would prefer to be in suits and deal with the intricacies of the Constitution. These people have dreams in becoming a lawyer so this is why some of them will go to Widener Law School.
Widener Law School: General Information
Formally known as Widener University School of Law, it is the law school of Widener University and is accredited by the ABA. It was originally named Delaware Law School and was founded in 1971. It became affiliated with Widener University in 1975, and its name was changed to its current one in 1989. It has campuses in Wilmington, Delaware, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Widener Law is the biggest law school in the state of Pennsylvania and currently has over 1600 students.
Widener Law School: Admissions
To be able to go to Widener Law, a student must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college before he or she applies. Furthermore, a prospective student must also register with the Law School Credential Assembly Service and take the Law School Admission Test. Additional application requirements include:
- Official transcripts from all the undergraduate, post graduate, and professional schools you attended
- Three (3) letters of recommendation from the Law School Admission Council’s Letter of Recommendation service
- A resume and a well-written personal statement
- For transfer students, they must have completed one full year of law school, and must submit a certified law school transcript, law school class rank and a letter of good standing from their previous law school.
- For international and resident alien students, they are required to submit all foreign transcripts to the Law School Credential Assembly Service, a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score, and their resident alien number.
Widener Law School: Academic Programs and Degrees
Widener Law has an extensive legal education program. The school offers its students with the opportunity to work on court cases through legal clinics that specialize in criminal defense, environmental law, civil law, family law, bankruptcy, and legal assistance. The school also has a Trial Advocacy Institute that offers training on how students should conduct themselves in a courtroom trial. Widener Law offers a Juris doctor degree program and a student can choose between a full-time 3-year program and a part-time 4-year program. They also offer dual degree programs like Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration, Juris Doctor/Doctor of Psychology, and Juris Doctor/Master of Public Health.
Widener Law: School: After Graduation
Widener Law has experienced an upward trend with regard to its students’ passing rates in the bar exam. Students who have taken the bar exam for the first time have achieved high passing rates, as high as 94.32% (from students who attended the Harrisburg campus), and 92.31% (from students who attended the Delaware campus). Over 3600 graduates of this law school have been admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar.
